Custom Built Saunas Project

Our Mount Waverley project involved the construction of a custom outdoor sauna and wellness area designed to complement the client’s existing backyard and pool environment. Based on our Horizon model, the brief was to create a contemporary sauna that delivered an authentic traditional sauna experience while enhancing the overall outdoor living space.

Constructed entirely on-site, the sauna was positioned on an easement and engineered to remain removable if required in the future. This approach allowed the client to maximise the available space while maintaining flexibility for the property long-term.

The design features the distinctive angular roofline and architectural form that have become a hallmark of our Horizon range. Externally, James Hardie Axon cladding finished in Monument creates a bold and modern appearance, complemented by matching flashings and trims for a clean, refined finish. The sauna is completed with an Accoya Grey decking platform, creating a strong visual contrast against the warm tones of the timber interior and surrounding landscape.

Inside, the sauna is lined with Thermory Aspen, selected for its light colour, smooth texture, and excellent performance in high-temperature environments. Floating two-tier bench seating, integrated backrests, and concealed LED lighting contribute to a clean and contemporary interior while maintaining exceptional comfort and functionality.

A large double-glazed glass frontage and timber-framed glass door create a strong connection between the sauna and the outdoor space while ensuring excellent thermal performance. The expansive glazing also allows natural light to enter the sauna, enhancing the sense of openness within the room.

Heating is provided by a HUUM HIVE 12kW heater with Wi-Fi control, chosen for its substantial stone capacity and exceptional heat quality. The larger rock volume delivers a softer, more even heat while producing excellent steam when water is applied to the stones. Combined with the sauna’s ventilation system, the result is a highly enjoyable and authentic sauna experience.

Adjacent to the sauna, the wellness area is completed with a custom outdoor shower featuring premium brushed brass fixtures. Together with the Accoya Grey decking and carefully selected material palette, the entire space feels cohesive, contemporary, and purpose-built.

One of the standout aspects of this project is the balance between architectural design and practicality. From the removable construction methodology through to the carefully considered material selections, every detail was designed to create a premium outdoor sauna experience while integrating seamlessly into the property.

The project was delivered smoothly and on schedule, and the client was thrilled with the finished result. The completed sauna has become a striking feature within the backyard and a space designed to be enjoyed for many years to come.
